Today I covered the bottom of the 3rd inning as a part of the fifth-annual progressive game blog hosted by the United Cardinal Bloggers. The game blog also features a number of Mets bloggers ℅ the Baseball Bloggers Alliance. It was supposed to rain, but with the sun shining and the place buzzing from Johan’s no-no last night, I decided to come out to Citifield.
The Mets got some help from an early error and with a little manufacturing; they headed into the bottom of the third on top of Lance Lynn and the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-0. Between Johan’s no-hitter and Dickey’s three shutout innings so far, the Mets have not surrendered a run since the 6-run, 9th inning debacle versus the Phillies on Wednesday. With Lynn’s pitch count already at 39 after only two innings, Lucas Duda, Daniel Murphy, and Ike Davis should look to exhibit some patience at the plate.
Duda led off the third and with a steady fastball diet, worked the count full before flying out to Matt Holliday in left field. Murphy took a nice cut on a 1-2 fastball, but flied to right where the former-Met, chalk enthusiast, and today’s Boo’s leader, Carlos Beltran, was humbly waiting to pull in the second out. Ike stepped to the plate with 2 outs, fresh off starting a 2nd inning rally with a rare hit [he even scored]. Davis quickly went down 1-and-2, but patiently waited through several more fastballs and a curve to draw Lynn’s 2nd walk of the afternoon. Omar Quintanilla entered with 1 on and 2 outs and again worked a full count to push Lynn over the 20-pitch mark for the inning, but struck out swinging to end the 3rd.
0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Errors, 0 Left On Base. After 3 innings, it’s the Cardinals 0 and the Mets 3.
